Everything you need to know about your Tallow Balm

What is Tallow Balm and how do I use it?

Our Tallow Balm is a deeply nourishing, all-over moisturiser designed to support and replenish your skin naturally. Use it anywhere: face, lips, hands, heels, elbows. It melts on contact and absorbs quickly, leaving your skin supple, not greasy. Apply as needed and enjoy the glow.

What's the difference between Tallow Balm and Whipped Tallow Balm?

Both are made with the same high-quality, nutrient-rich ingredients, the difference is in the texture.

  • Tallow Balm is rich, dense, and compact. It’s ideal for targeted application on very dry or cracked areas, like hands, heels, elbows, or anywhere that needs extra care.
  • Whipped Tallow Balm is the same formula, but it’s been aerated for a lighter, fluffier texture. It spreads more easily across larger areas, making it perfect for everyday use as a full-body moisturizer. Think of it like the difference between butter and whipped cream—same core benefits, different feel.

Whipped is great for warmer months or fast morning routines. The regular balm is your winter warrior or bedtime ritual go-to.

Why is the Balm harder or softer sometimes?

Tallow is a natural fat that responds to temperature. In cooler weather, it may feel firmer; during warmer months, it tends to be softer or creamier. This is totally normal. Just warm a small amount between your hands before applying—it’ll melt effortlessly into your skin.

Can I fix the texture if it changes?

Yes! Temperature shifts can sometimes cause the balm to become grainy or overly soft. This is similar to how raw honey can crystallize. If you prefer a smoother consistency, simply melt the balm gently over low heat, pour it back into its container, and pop it in the fridge for about 15 minutes. It’ll return to its silky texture in no time.

Why does the texture vary from batch to batch?

Because we only use real, natural ingredients—no fillers, no stabilisers, no synthetics—each batch is slightly unique. Seasonal changes, the cow’s diet, and storage conditions can all influence the final texture. Even within the same jar, texture can shift depending on your room temperature! It’s a living product, and we embrace the variations as a sign of authenticity.

Will my Balm have a scent?

Our tallow comes from healthy, pasture-raised animals and is never bleached or deodorized. It has a subtle, creamy, natural scent that most people find pleasant. However, if you’re particularly sensitive to smells, we recommend our scented options, which are infused with essential oils. Already have an unscented version and want to tweak it? Feel free to add a drop or two of a skin-safe essential oil of your choice—just patch test first.

Can I use this on my baby?

Absolutely. Our balm is gentle enough for delicate baby skin and is safe to use on everything from dry cheeks to nappy rash and eczema-prone areas. It’s free from synthetic fragrances and toxins—just pure, skin-loving ingredients.

That said, we always recommend doing a patch test first to ensure your child isn’t sensitive to any of the natural ingredients. Apply a small amount to a small area and wait 24 hours to check for any reaction.

If you're using a scented version, especially one containing citrus essential oils (like orange or lemon), be aware that some citrus oils can increase sun sensitivity or react with heat. For babies and sensitive skin, it's often best to stick with our unscented balm or those with gentler essential oils. As always, store your balm in a cool, shaded place to preserve its quality.

My skin’s breaking out, what’s going on?

Switching to a natural, toxin-free product, it’s normal for your skin to go through an adjustment phase. This “purging” period can happen as your skin detoxifies and rebalances, especially if you've been using products with synthetic ingredients. Most people notice this passes within a few weeks, and their skin becomes calmer and clearer.

However, if you notice that breakouts persist or worsen over time, or if you experience discomfort or irritation, it’s best to stop using the balm and consult a skincare professional.
Every skin type is unique, and while our ingredients are gentle and natural, what works beautifully for most may not suit everyone.

Is tallow the new Botox?

Not quite—but it is nature’s answer to smoother, healthier skin. Packed with vitamins A, D, E, and K, plus skin-loving fatty acids, tallow deeply nourishes, plumps, and supports elasticity—no needles required. While it won’t freeze your face, it will feed it what it actually needs to glow.
